Greetings,
Please see the attached document from the Clifton-Fine Central
School. A Capital Project will be put before the voters on March
17th. We wanted to notify the membership of the Cranberry Lake
Boat Club of this upcoming vote as well as the details of the proposed
capital project. The School Board has worked closely with the
administration to put this project out for a vote. We believe that this
project addresses key items at the school dealing with critical items
that need attention. We are pleased that this will result in no
increase in school taxes to the residents of the district.
I know that you send out newsletters to your membership and would
appreciate it if you could share this with them.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I can be reached
via e-mail (westbrook@esf.edu) or feel free to call me at 315-848-7270.

Subject: Please help the
Cranberry Lake Fire Dept's effort to be able to provide a faster
response time to an emergency at your residence in the Cranberry Lake
Fire District
Friends & Neighbors,
In case you haven’t already heard,
the Cranberry Lake Fire Dept., having on numerous occasions had
difficulty locating a specific property when responding to an
emergency, especially at night, are now offering a free reflective
house numbering sign to all residents of our fire district! This
project is being funded strictly from funds our volunteers have raised
through fund raising events so that no taxpayer dollars are being used
& should be a huge help in enabling us to provide a faster response
time to emergencies, which can be the difference between life &
death.
Please see this recent article in
North Country Now News…
http://northcountrynow.com/news/cranberry-lake-fire-and-rescue-department-offering-free-house-numbering-signs-fire-district-res
Those of you with remote, boat
access only properties, we are in the process of assigning “remote
property #’s”, to be used on these signs at your docks, to help us when
responding with the fire/rescue boat, so please also submit an
application for your free sign. Those who have both boat & road
access, we are offering an 2nd sign at a nominal cost, should you also
wish to post same at your point of boat access, should your road be
blocked & we have to respond by boat.
Attached is an application for
your free sign. I encourage you to complete & return same to the
fire hall or give to any of our volunteers & greatly appreciate
your participation in this most worthwhile project.
Sincerely,
Bill White

Via Email from Alfredo Guevara on 08/24/2013
In a meeting with me on August 18, 2013, the owner of the Cranberry
Lake Lodge provided the following information with regard to operations
at the Cranberry Lake Lodge and Marina:
· The CLBC member’s
dock will close on the day after Columbus Day per the dock lease
agreement with Cranberry Lake Marina.
· Cranberry Lake Marina
will not be accepting boats for indoor or outdoor winter storage over
this coming winter season for 2013-2014. The Marina can shrink wrap and
winterize customer boats at Cranberry Lake Marina before October 21 (by
reservation) for storage elsewhere. The Marina can identify some
alternative storage options, by contacting Bill Smith, Marina Manager,
at 848-2980.
· The extent of Lodge
and Marina operations next year are under close review and are not yet
determined. Some of the options under review would preclude the
Lodge from hosting CLBC events. The Lodge has determined not to host
the Annual Members’ meeting and reception next year. Accordingly,
the Lodge is not able to make specific commitments for CLBC events at
this time.
· Depending on the
determination with regard to future operations, the dock previously
leased to the Club for member use also may not available for lease.
I will provide more information on Lodge operations as it becomes available.
You may wish to send a note of encouragement to Scott Pickens, owner of
the Lodge, showing your appreciation for the years of service that the
Lodge has provided to the community and to our Boat Club, and our
fervent hopes that the business will be able to continue. His email

The annual Cranberry Lake Boat Club Poker
Paddle is as great as we make it. To that end, we are currently
and humbly accepting donations from the membership for paddle prizes
and raffle prizes. We prefer unique and interesting donations,
but will also accept humdrum and run of the mill donations (including
cold hard cash to the library! - direct donations should be made to
Cranberry Lake Boat Club, and please indicate Poker paddle).
If you have a donation or donation concept please email tim@lookyourbest.com to arrange an exchange.
Time is of the essence!

Two items to post and/or distribute as appropriate:
News from Bev Fickbaum, straight from the
coffee bunch Wednesday morning, April 24: Sue Thaller and Jeff
Rabideau, owners of the Stone Manor, are purchasing the Pine Cone in
Wanakena and plan to open it by mid-June. They are working to get their
liquor license, and they plan to refurbish the docks and to have plenty
of open boat slips for the business. They will also be refurbishing the
motel and opening it soon. Sue reports that the Stone Manor will
continue operations as usual. Congratulations and best wishes to Jeff
and Sue, both friendly and personable hosts and competent restaurant
managers, who have done an excellent job at the Stone Manor!
Also, There was an error in the
newsletter: The second annual Clifton-Fine Hospital Wilderness
Foundation Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, August 3, NOT Aug

Subject: State of the State Presentation - March 13th in Wanakena
Greetings,
I am trying to get the word out as quickly as possible about an upcoming meeting on Wednesday, March 13th.
Governor Cuomo has been having a number of “road shows” throughout the
state to present his State of the State highlights and his 2013-14
Budget Plan. One of these road shows is coming to Wanakena on
Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Main Classroom at the Ranger School.
Deputy Secretary of State Dede Scozzafava will be making the
presentation. As you know, Dede has been a great friend of
the Clifton-Fine community and it would be nice to have a large group
of people to welcome Dede as she makes this presentation. It is
my understanding specifically told representatives of the
Governor’s Office that she wanted one of the road show sessions held in
the Clifton-Fine area.
I know some of you are out of the state right now but not only did I
want to make you aware of this event, I was hoping that you could
help spread the word by informing others who may be able to
attend.
We hope you will consider attending this event. Refreshments will be served.
Please share this information with others who may be interested.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks.

The following is an email received from Laurie LaFrance updating the operation of Emporium.
Dear Boat Club,
Just to correct the statement about the emporium posted on the website.
The emporium is closing the store part of it's operations and this does also include the gas.
However, we do have our docks in and operational for our custormers, do
plan to continue to sell and deliver propane. We plan to continue to
service those camps up the lake we have always taken care of and we
will also continue to bring supplies to those with needs in water
acessable only camps as we have for the past 24 years.
I hope this helps clear up the misunderstandings and rumors in
Cranberry Lake. Also I plan to be here all summer just in case you have
heard differently .
Thank you for your years of service with the Emporium and I hope you
can understand that it is not fesible for me to pay someone to keep the
store open at this time.
We hope to better serve the lake by narrowing down our focuses.
Sincerly,
Laurie Lafrance
The Boat Club will have a new dock at the Cranberry Lake Lodge and
during the transition members may park there until the dock is
completed.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON CRANBERRY LAKE BOAT SERVICES
As many of you may be are aware, the Emporium will not be providing
fuel or services this summer. It is my understanding that persons
storing their boats with the Emporium will be able to access their
boats. Those in that situation need to contact the Emporium directly to
make the necessary arrangements.
The Boat Club will have a dock at the Cranberry Lake Lodge this summer.
During the transition time to construct a new dock, members may use the
current dock facilities at the Lodge. Please be considerate in your use
and do not park there all day or overnight. The Lodge has fuel pumps
working, a boat that can be used to take supplies to water accessible
only camps, and will be providing propane within the next few weeks as
soon as hook ups can be arranged. There are no boat mechanic services
currently available at the Lodge. If you have questions please contact
Brian Bullard or leave a message at (315) 848-2980.
I hope this information is useful as you prepare to return to Cranberry Lake.

Good news on the Cell Tower. Chuck Yartz advised me that the APA
approved the cell tower on April 19. Several boat club members wrote
letters on short notice and it demonstrated strong support.
Conversations with the Narkewicz family indicate that a Memorial
Service will be held for Dick on May 26th around 11 a.m. Plans are
still tentative but this information should be helpful.
Thanks to all for getting your event notices into John and Sarge for
posting. If you have items for our agenda at our first meeting on June
1 be sure to pass them along.

Chuck Yartz asked me yesterday for assistance in support of the cell
tower at Cranberry Lake. Evidently the APA's Regulatory Committee is
meeting on April 19 to evaluate the cell tower proposal. Chuck asked if
I would encourage boat club members to support the cell and consider
writing to the APA Regulatory Committee, Adirondack Park Agency, PO Box

As many of you know the CL Post Office is on the list to be considered
for closure. On Oct. 15 the attached invitation for comments was placed
in your PO box to be completed by Oct 25 when a meeting was held in CL
with PO representatives. We have received permission for an extension
to send the sheets back. They now must be postmarked no later than Nov.

Subject: Proposal to Close the Cranberry Lake Post
Office
On October 25 a
public meeting was held at the Cranberry Lake Community
Center to discuss a proposal to close the Cranberry Lake
Post Office. A petition was circulated three weeks
before and mailed before the meeting. In addition many
of you may recall the notice in the Bargain Hunter
requesting that you write our New State Senators and
Representative with copies to the local offices. Many of
you may have sent the letters and signed the petition.
If you did not, I encourage you to write the legislators
and take another action which is the subject of this
message.
Given the fact that no mail regarding the attached
questionnaire and comment sheet could be forwarded, it
was impossible for many Boat Club members to provide
that information. The forms were provided on October 15 allowing
only ten days for completion if you were here and
checked your post office box. At the public meeting I
requested an extension of the deadline date of October 25 to
allow more persons to reply. The Albany coordinator,
Nadine Tremblay called me yesterday to formally approve
an extension to allow more input.
If you have not filled out the questionnaire and
provided comments, you must do so by November 4th and
your reply must be postmarked no later than that date.
The questionnaire is two sided and will require you to
staple the pages together placing you name, address and
post office box number is on each page--some pages have
a space to do so. Just be sure that your name is on each
page in your reply. reply. The personal comments section
is important. Be sure to complete that as well and add
to them on a separate page if you wish. Your input could
make a real difference. Lots of community energy has
been spent in an attempt to keep our Post Office. The
Boat Club has played a major role and the more people
who express an opinion the better. The extension period
in making a reply allows for us to make more of our
voices heard. Please act promptly on this request.
Once done please mail your reply to: NADINE
TREMBLAY, 30 KARNER ROAD,

From Fred Guevara, Chair of the the 5th Annual Cranberry
Lake Poker Paddle. Saturday's paddle
was a huge success, with 26 paddlers and 45 “virtual”
paddlers. $1,175 was raised to benefit the
Community Library. First prize went to
Matt Benner, who paddled to all 10 docks, second prize to
Evan McCoy who also paddled all 10 docks, and third prize to
Carol Murray- another 10 dock paddler. There
were three additional paddlers who went to all ten
docks: Carla Marsh, Alicia Whitmore, and Kelly Mostyn.
Thank you to our sponsors who provided the
prizes: Clifton-Fine Property Owner's
Association, Wanakena General Store, Packbasket, Pinecone,
Lakeside General Store, Cranberry Lake Lodge, Windfall, and
co-chair Sue Wing.
Special thanks to the Cranberry Lake Lodge for hosting our
event and providing space and refreshments for our
paddlers. And, thanks to the dock sitters and
dealers and to co-chair Sue Wing for her innovative ideas
for this year's event.

Effective July 1, Kelly Smith,
the Town of Clifton Highway Superintendent, has reopended
limited parking behind the Community Center in Cranberry
Lake. Orange cones outline a roadway that leads to
the back parking lot where the boat trailers were
previously parked. The front parking area, by the
tennis courts, is still under construction.
Announcements from Allen Splete on June 2, 2011
Notes of Interest
Parking at the lot behind the Community Center is now restricted
as blacktopping will be done to accommodate more vehicles and
trailers at this location. Work is slated to begin on June 20
with the hope to reopen the area for parking before the 4th of
July. Persons normally using this space will have to make other
arrangements. It is suggested that they use the parking lot near
the public launch site. Work dates may vary but you should be
aware of this development as you plan your return.
There is a boat steward at the public launch site. His name is
Eric Paul and he is part of an Adirondack Lakes project being
conducted by Paul Smiths College. He will be talking with people
about invasive species and noting boat conditions to increase
public awareness of this concern. His hours will be 7:00 a.m. to
4:00 p.m on Fridays through Tuesdays throughout the summer with
a concentration in July and August. Please stop and say hello to
Eric.
The Cranberry Lake Lodge now has a full time boat mechanic on
duty. His name is David Martin and he is located in the building
next to the large storage barn across from the Lodge.
The annual meeting of the boat club will take place on July 9th
at 3:00 p.m. before the reception and annual banquet at the
Cranberry Lake Lodge.
It is with great sadness that I report the passing of

MARK YOUR SUMMER CALENDAR
Saturday, July 16, 2011, Cranberry Lake Lodge - Two Great
Events:
The Annual Cranberry Lake Boat Show and Annual Card Board Boat
Race will come together for the first time with music provided
by “Giant and the Green Foam”, featuring Joe Thomas. There
will be a concession stand provided all day by the Cranberry
Lake Lodge, as well as canoes, kayaks, and boats on site for
viewing, test driving and purchasing. We are also looking
for individuals who would like to display their antique
boats, canoes and motors. The day’s event is being sponsored by
the Cranberry Lake Boat Club and the Cranberry Lake Lodge and is
open to the public. Last year the card board boat race
attracted over 300 people. Next year the challenge goes
out for more card board boat entries. Some suggested
competitors are: area churches with youth groups to
challenge last year’s Presbyterian youth group winners;
Clifton-Fine Central school grade challenges; possibly the
Ranger School students vs. the ESF students; the Star Lake
Protective Assn. vs. the Cranberry Lake Boat Club; and the local
fire departments. The day’s activities will conclude with
a boat parade around Cranberry Lake. Let’s make this an event to
remember!
